With tech giants competing left and right to hand us more and more remarkable handsets each year, we've become pretty hard to impress and it now takes much to squeeze out a WOW from even the most primitive smartphone user--until the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus, that is!
The Galaxy S8 is a powerful phone that's mostly screen with undeniable appeal and it's now available for pre-order!
But first, let's take a closer look. The Samsung Galaxy S8 is by far the most good-looking phone out in the market. It boasts an Infinity Display with the lowest bezel-to-screen ratio to date. Every corner and edge has been curved back, fitting perfectly in your hand. The S8 (149 x 68 x 8 mm, 155g) and S8 plus (160 x 73 x 8.1 mm, 173g) are slim and pleasingly light yet sturdy and very well built. Being IP68 water and dust resistant, the S8 and S8 Plus can withstand a good 1.5-meter depth for up to 30 minutes.
There's no denying, the S8 looks perfectly stunning and every bit of it feels exceptional. You also can't go wrong with any of its 3 classic colours – Midnight, Orchid Gray and Arctic Silver.
With all that screen, and tiny bezel, The S8's front is all out of room for the Home button/fingerprint scanner. But no worries, it's merely been relocated to the back of the phone beside the rear camera. Bold move, but it works.
You can also use iris scanning or facial recognition to unlock your phone instead of typing in your password a thousand times a day. An even better news is that it works way faster and much better than its predecessors. You may still need to hold your phone at a precise angle, but once you do, it notices who you are right away.
Back to S8's highlight –its behemothic screen. The Galaxy S8 has a 5.8-inch screen while the S8 Plus has a whopping 6.2-inch screen. Both with a 2,960 x 1,440 resolution and Super AMOLED, meaning they're both super bright and super clear. It's also Mobile HDR Premium certified, which means you can stream high dynamic range shows from Amazon Prime or Netflix.
To match its gorgeous shell, Samsung made sure S8's internals are just as praise-worthy. With Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 (2.35GHz + 1.9GHz) or octa-core Samsung Exynos 8895 (2.35GHz + 1.7GHz), 4GB of RAM and a roomy internal storage of 64GB (expandable up to 2TB via microSD cards), the S8 is a true powerhouse.
Samsung's software is also looking mighty good with the Android 7.0 Nougat and with the biggest software addition--the Bixby! It's Samsung's take on an intelligent assistant that can follow you through voice or touch. Pretty much like Siri.
Shutterbugs are in for a treat, too. S8's front-facing camera has been bumped up to 8MP (which is very rare for a selfie cam) and is impressively sharp with a great low-light sensor. We're also not complaining about the rear camera remaining to be its awesome 12MP self. You can also still expect it to have fast focus and an aperture of f/1.7. What's not to love?
One major camera upgrade though, is S8's multi-frame image picture. What happens is, your phone takes 3 shots with every snap, selects the best one and reduces its blur, leaving you with the best shot every single time. Oh, and speaking of snap, S8's selfie camera now comes with built-in effects similar to that of the Snapchat! Curious? See for yourself!
The Verdict: Samsung Galaxy S8 is undoubtedly Samsung's best. It's the perfect mix of design and power, outshining and outperforming its competition. Samsung successfully raised the bar by sculpting the biggest screen possible in such a compact body without compromising strength. Once you've got the Galaxy S8 in hand, all other phones simply go dull.
