For years, we have been attracted to larger screens, yet still long for the convenience a compact phone brings. Thankfully, manufacturers have been getting better at squeezing in all the goodness in a more handy device, and that is exactly what the LG G6 is all about. With an 18:9 aspect ratio and rounded corners, you get pure screen bliss minus the bulk.
The LG G6 unibody design is simple, straightforward and super rugged. Its noticeably thin bezel is an eye magnet and the absence of the metal-sprayed plastic found on its predecessor gives the G6 the much-wanted design boost. The front is covered with Gorilla Glass 3 and the back is covered with Gorilla Glass 5 for maximum protection. A metal rim also runs around the sides of the handset for added rigidity.
Can it get more rugged? Yes! In case you haven't heard, the G6 has an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. This may not give you the license to go swimming with it, but at least you can feel free to tweet in your tub!
Just below the rear camera, you will find a power button that doubles as a fingerprint sensor, and it works impressively well, if I may add. It offers a decent feedback and is extremely accurate. No need to press any button to unlock your phone! Plus it's the perfect location to have the fingerprint sensor since that's pretty much the spot our fingers rest when we pick up our phone.
Now back to the famous 18:9 ratio display. This popular screen that's stretched to nearly every corner of the device boasts a resolution of 2,880 x 1,440 and is the first phone with both HDR 10 and Dolby Vision support, bringing entertainment to life right before your eyes. It offers a stunning visual experience with brighter, more vibrant images.
Speaking of images, the G6 had a bit of an upgrade in the camera department as well. It may not be the usual megapixel bump you're expecting, but the new 13-MP wide-angle camera is just as spectacular, if not more. It gives you images that resemble GoPro wide-angle shots. And since the G6 has two sensors, just like its predecessor, you still have your trusty 13-MP, OIS, f/1.8 aperture sitting right next to the wide-angle camera.
The LG G6 houses one of the best processors available today--the Snapdragon 821, making the G6 smooth and responsive with almost no perceptible lags. It also comes equipped with 4GB of RAM, 32GB of storage (expandable up to 2TB using a microSD card slot) and an Adreno 530 GPU, which proves to be a very reliable graphics chipset capable of handling any game you throw at it.
Its battery is not backing down either. LG G6 has a non-removable 3,300mAh battery, which is capable of surviving a full day of heavy usage with a single charge.
So, get your game on! The LG G6 is ready when you are!
The Verdict: The LG G6 is arguably the best 5.7-inch smartphone in our time. It's not significantly larger than the regular 5.2-inch handset we've been accustomed to, yet gives you the full screen you've always wanted. Toss in the latest software and make it IP68 water resistant and you've got yourself the hottest new "it" smartphone!
